Creative kickstart

Finding inspiration for my work comes in many forms. Before I go to my studio each morning, I check in on my favorite blogs and see what they are talking about.

Victoria over at the blog sfgirlbybay always features something interesting--photos, artwork, interviews, or reviews--to get the creative juices flowing. 

And sometimes the luscious imagery makes me hungry...

Found this lovely wallpaper by illustrator Julia Rothman on sfgirlbybay. I adore the wallpaper's rich colors and the heavenly drawings of birds in the clouds. The wallpaper is also featured on grain edit and includes Victoria's interview with Julia.

Julia's new collaborative book The Exquisite Book is on my wish list.

Welcome to my studio

Although I do some of my best work sitting in the kitchen
or even waiting in the carpool lane,
my studio is a favorite place. 

 

...

  I  believe a WORK place should also be a FUN place.
Here my pens, pencils, and paint are never out of reach--
unless one of my kids "borrows" them.

I admit it, I am a geek.

My iMac and iPad keep me connected.
...

...

 Bright colors and a little clutter make me happy.
I collect books and magazines for inspiration.
It's only November, but when a deadline lurks I might be listening to Christmas music.

I believe dogs smile and this pup's smile melts my heart. She looks like the perfect family pet :)

Daily doodle: Giraffe

I like giraffes because they hold their heads up high.

Fun giraffe facts: 

• A giraffe can look into a second-story window.
• A giraffe's 6-foot neck weighs about 600 pounds and yet a giraffe has only seven neck vertebrae just like people.
• Even though the front legs of a giraffe look longer, their front and back legs are the same length--about six feet in length.
• Giraffes have big hearts: a giraffe heart weighs about 25 pounds.
• Giraffe lungs are big too, they can hold about 12 gallons of air.
• The giraffe loves Acacia leaves and they eat about 75 pounds of tree leaves a day.
