Wearing Crocs and Escalator Dangers

The colorful Crocs footwear popular with kids and adults worldwide has been linked to dangers when wearing the clogs near escalators. There have been complaints of the Crocs getting stuck in escalators. Now the Colorado-based footwear maker, Niwot, will include a tag on the shoes to warn wearers to be careful when wearing Crocs near escalators. You can watch a video clip below explaining how quickly a child's Crocs shoe can become stuck in an escaltor.

In May, a 4-year-old boy's Crocs shoe became stuck in an escalator at FlatIron Crossing. Fortunately he was not injured because his quick thinking aunt realized the boy was in trouble and pulled his foot out of the Crocs. According to the Boulder Daily Camera, the Crocs company has offered the following five escalator safety tips:

1. Stand facing forward in the center of the step
2. Step on and off carefully 
3. Do not touch sides below handrail 
4. Avoid the sides of the steps where shoe entrapment can occur 
5. Supervise children at all times  

According to the The Denver Post, "Crocs was sued for $7 million earlier this year by parents of a 3-year-old girl whose toe was mangled in her Crocs in an escalator in November 2007 at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport."
