Each time I go home to visit my parents, my daughter loves to bake cookies with Grandma. Here is one of her favorites.
Mom's Roll and Cut-Out Cookies Recipe
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine flour, cream of tartar and baking soda. Using a fork, cut in butter. Combine eggs, sugar and vanilla and then stir this into flour mixture. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Heat oven to 400. Roll dough 1/8-inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut with cookie cutters. (Before you cut into dough, you can dust cookie cutters with flour to help release the cookie.) Place cookies on greased cookie sheets. Decorate with vanilla sugar. Bake 6 minutes until light brown. (A decorating alternative: decorate cookie with frosting when cool.)
Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
