Fizzy Diversion: Bottle Shock, the movie

When life gets tedious--that happens often to me this time of year--I love a good diversion. A good movie can cure me of the blahs and keep me smiling long after the picture ends.

This weekend I had a date night with my hubbie and we went to see the movie Bottle Shock--based on a true story of the amazing rise of the California wine industry in the late 70's. If you believe the critics, the movie is a rare combination of the hit movies Little Miss Sunshine and Sideways. I loved watching Bottle Shock because it's all about the good things (and the frustrations) that happen to a hardworking entrepreneur who risks nearly everything to make his dreams come true. Also the breathtaking California wine country is easy on the eyes.

" 'Wine is sunlight held together by water,' the poetic wisdom of the Italian physicist, philosopher and star gazer Galileo Galilei," says the British wine shop owner Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) who sponsors a competition that pits the French against the California upstarts.
