Do you end up sitting on your luggage before a trip just to squeeze in one more outfit? My hubby is always telling me, "Pack lighter!" I know it's the right thing to do because I always come home from a trip with a few things that never even left my suitcase.
The last week in January I had a packing challenge because I was going to be mingling with hundreds of stylish bloggers at Alt Design Summit in Salt Lake City. So what did I pack? SCARVES! And it turns out plenty of lovely ladies did the same.
Here's just a few photos of the scarves at Alt by the talented photographers Brooke Dennis and Justin Hackworth at Alt...
I always wear a longer scarf, but I'm thinking I need to shake things up a bit. Afterall, notice how Gabrielle Blair (top right) at Design Mom looked tres chic with a smaller scarf tied at her neck. And... She was talking to the awesome actress Jessica Alba, who also happens to be the founder of the natural and eco-friendly products line The Honest Company. (I'm thinking Jessica was admiring Gabrielle's sweet scarf too... Now if only I could get Jessica to see my sketch of her wearing the lovely Oscar de la Renta gown at the Golden Globes.)
Here are a few more stylish scarves...
The Alt Summit SLC conference even hosted a design contest to create a scarf for the non-profit organization FashionABLE—each purchase of a fashionABLE scarf creates sustainable business for women in Africa. The submissions for scarf designs were awesome and during Friday lunch attendees at Alt all voted for their favorite scarf design via the brand new SeeSaw App. Gabrielle is wearing the winning black and white scarf design in the photo below. The adorable Janette Crawford at Storenvy created the winning design. You can read here about her award-winning scarf that will be woven by a women in Africa and available for Mother's Day. Order yours too! I'm going to order one for my mom—and me!
Why pack scarves?
Imagine you are going to Paris or London. (Sounds silly, I know... But keep reading, I eventually make my point.) I'm not going to Europe anytime soon, but whenever I do, I notice the fashionable women rock the accessories. So today I've got an easy way to change up the look of an outfit with a simple AND light accessory: Scarves.
I selected the following scarves for adding variety to a look even when packing your most basic travel wardrobe. Think pattern, colors, and weight. Two scarves of the same color will look different if they are made of different materials. You get the idea... During the day, maybe a lightweight color block scarf with stripes works. Change the look completely and wrap your shoulders with the wider and longer mandarin scarf. (Links for scarves below.)
If you can't wait until Mother's day... Here are a few of my personal faves for spring.
Bon voyage!
