Back in August I started my 52 Women to Watch series with actor Olivia Munn. I won't always include actors, but a variety women that catch my attention for their roles in media, politics, art, literature and popular culture. So here is number 2—Natalie Portman.
This dancer turned actress is also a Harvard grad. Aside from her role of Queen Amidala in the Star Wars films, she did not accept any film roles while she was in college. Her ambition and seriousness as a student might be one of the reasons this Oscar winner is one of the hottest stars in films with Hollywood's leading directors. Portman strikes an interesting balance in her choice of roles—mixing in roles in several independent, art house, and other challenging projects with roles in blockbusters. Her MO working in films seems to be hard work and determination and that attitude is also evident in her fierce dedication to making a difference in life as an advocate for many social causes including as an ambassador for Free The Children.
You can catch Portman now in the comic-book action thriller Thor.
